Kate and Matt are happily married. But lately, fertility issues and dashed dreams are taking their toll. It seems to Kate that Matt is oblivious to the strain and depression these failed attempts at getting pregnant and even using IVF is taking on her. "They're in it together, aren't they?" But I agree with Kate, I'm not sure a man could ever understand fully the way this affects women. Afterall, it's Kate's body being invaded and it's her who feels like a failure with every negative pregnancy test. Matt's eternal optimism was helpful at first but after 4 attempts, Kate isn't sure she can keep this up and Matt's positive outlook and don't quite attitude are starting to grate on her nerves. Where they once felt like a team, she's starting to feel like their partnership is dissolving.
And as is often the case with couples going through fertility issues, it affects not only your marital or romantic relationship but every other relationship. Your family, mom, sister, friends, whether or not they realize it or not. Kate's hormones are being messed with and she can't help but be "sensitive." It's a lot of extra stress and turmoil on a person's mental health!
Sandie Jones' writing is engaging right from the start. Having read another of her novels, I'm looking forward to this one as well. I know I can expect real and brutally honest emotions as well as twists and turns. I find myself sitting in anticipation just reading this excerpt!
