First off: I love when the books here include excerpts that are 25+ pages. That's really the best way to get a feel for the book.

The cover is just OK. I would have preferred something less literal.

But! The writing is excellent, totally engrossing. For all intents and purposes, this is a western - there's a whorehouse in a dusty town in the middle of nowhere and the escaped girls "of the night" are on the lam from a controlling madame of the house (and the law). This would be good, but not particularly unique. However, the author has woven in some really interesting fantasy elements, such as magic tattoos, Dementor-like beings, people without shadows, ghosts, and more.

These girls - the five of them - are STRONG, and I'm interested in their stories!
