As I started reading, I wasn't sure about the story, of where is was going. But hang in there. It picks up and carries you away on an adventure.

There is a character, Sullivan-a young boy, who seems out of place in the story. I'm not sure why he is there. I kept thinking we'll find out. He doesn't seem to move the story along. He is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I never did find the reason for this character. Oh well.

I did like everyone else. Author, Monica McInerney, did a wonderful job of making the characters have real and different personalities (minus Sullivan). The Godmothers, Maxie & Olivia are take great care of what their Goddaughter, Eliza, knows and not knows about her mother, Jeannie - the secrets. No, I'm not giving them away, you'll have to read the book. I'll just say I did not see them coming.

Chapter 42 was the one of the neatest chapter I have ever read in any book. It's different and it was fun to read, even with the sadness.

Yes, I would read another book by this author, like "The Faraday Girls".
