I didn’t go into The Godmothers with high expectations because it isn’t my normal genre of novel. That being said, I am happy to say it was better than expected. There were two major things that stood out to me after reading - one negative and one positive. First, the negative.

Though a lot technically happens in the book, not a lot really does. The character development doesn’t constitute the length of novel so I found it really hard to get through. The length of the book is some 430+ pages which feels like a LOT for a plot that could be covered in a short story.

However, the writing is pretty fantastic and does help carry through the dry spells. The major positive is the cast of characters themselves. Typically, I don’t care about a lot of characters when there are so many, yet each character held their own in this book. Also, bonus points for Sullivan basically carrying the whole novel!
