I thought that this book was an enjoyable read overall.

One thing I really liked about this book was that it took place in different countries--Australia, Scotland, and Ireland to be exact. As someone who doesn't live in any of those three countries, I enjoyed seeing them through the author's (and in turn, the character's) eyes.

In regards to the characters, I liked Eliza and her godmothers. I personally thought that Eliza's relationship with her mother, however, could have been a bit more complex (seeing as her mother was an alcoholic; I'm sure there are more complex feelings there, and I wish they'd been explored more).

In terms of the plot, I thought it was so interesting as it faced the question of whether or not it's always right to tell the truth (particularly to a surviving child).

Overall, I think this book was an engaging read that had both sad moments and heartwarming moments. So I'm glad that I got a chance to read this book, even though it's not a genre I usually go for!
