I began reading this story thinking it was about a girl growing up without her mother. It was so much more. The character development is superb and I felt totally invested in the relationship between Eliza and her Godmothers.

The plot development set a perfect pace to allow the reader time to grow attached to the characters. I genuinely was nervous for Eliza as she travelled back to see if she could find her father.

I wish there was a bit more of a backstory about Jeannie to explore her mental illness. At time, Jeannie seems like a petulant child prone to exaggeration rather than a woman with a mental disorder.

Also, the relationship between Maxie and her wife is a story I would like to hear more about.

I was worried that the truth of Jeannie’s death would be left unfinished, however, the author wrapped up the ending perfectly. The reader got to find out the truth and the main characters were spared additional heartache.
