The Godmothers follows Eliza Miller, a 30 year old woman who has just lost her job and her apartment, but receives an intriguing invitation to visit her godmothers abroad for a wedding. The story is told from multiple perspectives as Eliza discovers so much about herself and the complicated life her mother led before she died when Eliza was only 17.

The story is warm and captivating and tackles a whole host of difficult issues. It deals with everything from grief, mental health issues, and alcoholism to found family, love and following your dreams. It's truly a heartwarming story about the lies we tell ourselves and the people we love to protect them. I would highly recommend it.

The writing is strong. I couldn't flip through the pages fast enough. The characters are compelling, and the relationships Eliza has are wonderful. I wish I could know most of these characters in real life. All in all, it was a really really good book, and I'm very happy I had the opportunity to pick it up.
