Monica McInerney is an author I’ve heard good things about. She has a lot of other books but this is my first time reading a book by her. After reading I would try some of the others. This is a women’s fiction contemporary book with some romance and mystery. Truthfully it’s just not my favorite genre and there’s genres I enjoy more, but I really did like this author’s pleasant writing style. This book starts off showing us what Eliza’s life was like with her mother when she was younger. They have a good relationship but when she gets back from a flight she finds her mom lifeless in the bath. Her mom always told her that when she turns eighteen she will finally tell her who her father is. We jump thirteen years into the future. Eliza turns a lot to her godmothers, Olivia and Maxie who as always there for her. I like how this book shows important friendships and family ties even if not by blood, especially important female relationships. I liked the different settings and places in this book but the timeline was really confusing at first. I didn’t really like where the book went in terms of who the mysterious father was either.
