The book was such a beautiful blend of cozy characters, funny plot points, and mysterious twists that it was a breeze to read! I really enjoyed the writing style of the book. For one, there are multiple point of views in the book, but it is rather inconsistent in who will be narrating. I loved this instead of the book doing a systematic cycle through the characters as it gave more an element of surprise as to who would be speaking next. Another aspect that I loved was the word choices used. It was very lyrical and gave me a feeling of cozy. The only negative (if you really consider it a big thing) was that there were multiple misspellings throughout the book. They were few and far between, but they were there.
In terms of characters, there was a range that was really nice to have. It was easy to find someone to connect to or to love. I, for one, loved Eliza who was the main character. She is a woman who used to love to travel and be adventurous but had since lost her way ever since her mom died when she was 18. I felt for her at a lot of points in the book. You could slowly see her coming into her own, and I was rooting on the sidelines. I never felt annoyed by her actions or lack of gumption in the beginning. It might be because I, the reader, is privy to her innermost thoughts which were refreshingly biting and funny. I also loved the other main characters, Olivia and Maxie, the godmothers. Her godmothers were amazingly complex people who were supportive and loyal above all. They made me wish I had had a godmother when I was younger.
Finally, the plot was a roller coaster. There were multiple mysteries of who Eliza's parents were and her upbringing that were blended with a story of traveling and what it means to be a family. Just when you feel wrapped in a fuzzy blanket of family and warmth, you are hit with a punch of mystery and the reality of life. It was done in such an interesting way, and it made me want to read more by this author.
Overall the book was great and I think it could be read at any time of year. I highly recommend!
