This was an incredible and harrowing look inside the difficult life of a woman recovering from anorexia. I won't pretend to understand the complexity of the illness, even after reading this book, but I thought that Yara Zgheib did a fantastic job of portraying how anorexia may affect its victims. While the book was often difficult to read, I found myself unable to put it down.

The characters were all authentic and felt deeply human to me. I felt so bad for them. Poor Matthias, beating himself up for missing the signs and not acting sooner. Poor Papa, for not being able to understand his daughter's pain. And poor Anna, for everything she went through before and during her recovery. Anorexia doesn't just affect its victims; it affects their families and friends as well.

Through Zgheib's poignant writing, realistic characters, and heartbreaking story, I learned so much about anorexia and its tough recovery process. This was a tough but worthwhile read that highlighted how complex and dangerous eating disorders can be in an eloquent way.
