The Girls at 17 Swann Street quickly establishes that it is not a book for everyone. It sets a staccato pace told by Anna, who is French and suffering from anorexia nervosa. But it also manages to both quickly and slowly weave together why Anna has a problem and her denial that she does, describing food in a way only someone with a deep relationship to it can that seems to make her disease only that more heartbreaking.
