There's a flowing poetic quality to Yara Zgheib's writing, a heartbreaking soulfulness on an already devastating topic. Anna, our protagonist, invites you in to her life, come dear reader, don't dare turn your eyes away from the signs. You'll want to. You won't want to watch the pain that she's enduring even as her pride and the disease itself push you away, you'll find yourself physically pulling back from the page in an agony of empathy and compassion, as I did. Perhaps even in a touch or more of kinship. What young woman hasn't suffered from body image issues to some extent? This book does a fantastic job of getting the layman to understand the pathology of ED and anorexia nervosa. With so much packed into 29 pages, I can't wait to see what this author does with an entire book.
