This book is utterly infused with the spirit of its protagonist. Every word breathes her essence into your mind, even when she is not the one narrating. After reading the first look I feel like I can see her standing before me, pale and slim and desperate. I find myself desperately hoping for the best for this woman, wanting her to have a happy ending as though she was a dear friend.
The language here is powerful but in a perfectly understated way. Without having to use long drawn out descriptions, the author is able to create a world in your mind that you are totally drawn into. She makes this character real in way I could not even begin to try and replicate.
