The Girl in the Tower is the second book to The Bear and the Nightingale. Vasya is a young girl who had to decide between getting married to a prince or join a convent. Instead, she decided to go on adventures in the wilderness. She then returns to help defend Moscow from a siege. As a lover of the first book, the second book adds more depth into her life.
The characters add to the mystery and magic that surrounds Russia. Both books have folklore tied into the writing. I love folklore of all cultures, but this trilogy is at The top of my retelling list. The writing also entails original Russian words that are to the already magical setting in the story. I can't wait to read the third book. I would recommend this to anyone who loves fairytales and a good action to go with.
