This was a great story intertwining magic, russian folklore, and a young girl coming of age.
Vasya has a rare gift that allows her to see the mysterious mythical creatures that help protect her home.
When these creatures begin to weaken is it left to Vasya to find a way to protect her family.
I loved the setting of this story in the woodlands of Russia. I also liked hearing of the Russian folk tales and very much appreciated Arden's english take on the russian language.
Although I wish this book had a quicker pace I believe it set a great foundation for the next book in this series.
I'll admit I'm hopeful for a romance between the two main characters and can't wait to see where the next book takes them.
