I read the first book in this trilogy, The Bear and the Nightingale, recently and although it started out rather slowly, it quickly became engrossing, rich with stunning descriptions and Russian folklore.

These first few chapters of The Girl in the Tower center around Olga and Sasha, Vasya's siblings who I liked a lot but depart early on in the first book. Now that Olga is a Princess and Sasha advises the Grand Prince, I am excited to see what roles they will play in the story, and how Vasya will come into their lives again. One of my favorite things about The Bear and the Nightingale is how close Vasya is with her siblings, and how they love her despite not always fully understanding her. I can't wait to read the rest of this book!

I also really like the cover - it really captures the magical feeling of the story.
