Hess does a great job with providing details and descriptive scenery to set the story. He ties in dysfunction, deceit, lying and scheming into this story about a fair coming to Texas. The story starts out with insurance fraud and the lies and deceit only increases from there. It is a quick paced read.

I was often very confused by the German words thrown around. They start from the very beginning and continue throughout, never actually telling you the correct translation. I found it hard to truly like any of the characters in the story as well. As detailed as the story is, it almost has a rigid feel and tone about it. I found it hard to relate to the characters and the story line. I really wanted to relate and find great things with this book, but it just fell too flat for me.
