A while ago, I read The Gilded Wolves and had to DNF because I had no idea what was even going on. For starters, I did appreciate how diverse the cast was and how many of them were from different backgrounds and ethnicities. But in terms of them as a group, there was definitely a lack of chemistry and I wish all of their relationships could have had been developed more.
As for the plot, it just got confusing by the chapter. In the first chapter, I believe there was a murder and then there was this big explanation about the magic system, and everything was just kinda thrown in at once that it was confusing to understand. There were these different types of houses that did different things and it was hard to memorize everything. Perhaps if the author could have had explained the magic system a little more or taken out some elements of it, it could have had been easier to understand. As much as I tried to keep reading and like it, the book was just not for me. But on a side note, I do really like the cover!
