Paris in 1889, a world with magic, puzzles to solve, and a heist
Paris 1889 is getting ready for a World Exposition. There were four French Houses that protect a fragment of Babel. Now there are only two. One house ended with no heirs (or did it?) and another has fallen due to poor choices and no longer exists (or does it?). There are magical objects that have been forged and are both protected fiercely and sold at auctions. Some people are born with a magical ability called forging- there are two affinities, either mental or matter.
Severin is working to regain his lost heritage. Tristan is a much in-demand forging (magic some are born with) landscaper and has a shared history with Severin.. Laila is on her own quest to learn more about her background. She has multiple talents and personas to share with the team. Zofia is brilliant, has forging abilities as well, and interactions with people confuse her. Enrique is also brilliant and has a passion that he wants to pursue. These five have worked together for a quite some time, helping on heists. Unfortunately, their latest heist comes with consequences, and Hypnos, a House Patriarch, joins the group. Can they trust him? Do they like him? Will they solve the puzzles, and challenges in front of them? Will they achieve their goal? It was an exciting adventure with lots of suspense, interactions, and magical inventions. A fun read!
