Loved this book!

I absolutely loved this book! The concept and location was very unique and the authors note gave so much insight into the backstory and history.

Besides the characters, my favorite part of this book was the blending of different mythologies. Not only in description, but also in the clues! All of the clues were derived from different cultures and mythologies. Roshani Chokshi seamlessly blended everything together in a way that made it feel natural.

Moving on, the characters! I loved loved loved the characters. What I loved more was the diversity in the characters. There was all kinds of representation and I loved it.

Severin was my favorite brooding/revenge bent boy. I would die for him. His wants and actions were so well written that I could relate to him.

Laila was the one I could relate to the most, being Indian myself. She was confident and sassy but also vulnerable. I loved understanding all of the Hindi words that were used and understanding where Laila came from.

Tristan was my soft boy and like Severin, I protect him. I loved Tristan and his plants and his wariness. Like the rest, I didn't particularly like Goliath but if Tristan likes him, I'll allow it.

Enrique was my favorite sarcastic member. His persistence of being the smartest and his replies to Zofia cracked me up. Through the writing, I completely understood the duality he felt and how he struggled with it. He just wanted to fit in.

Zofia is my favorite cookie monster. I loved reading form her POV and even though I hate math, Zofia made me see the beauty in it. Also, if anyone calls her idiot girl again I will riot.

Hypnos was a character I fell in love with form the moment I first met him. Even before I which side he was on I loved him. His one liners and constant extra-ness gave this book life. Only bad thing was that we only got one chapter from his POV.

The one thing that killed me throughout the book was Laila calling Severin "Majnun" and Severin only thinking it meant "madman" and not knowing the story of Laila and Majnun. I swear every time she called him that my heart skipped a beat and I wanted to tear my hair out at Severin's obliviousness.

Overall I give this book 9/10. Only 9 because I felt it was lacking some character development with Tristan and got a little confusing at times but overall I really loved it!
