Roshani Chokshi impressed me with The Star Touched Queen several years ago, so of course I picked up this book too.

I am one of the only people I know who could not stand Six Of Crows when it was being touted as the perfect YA heist novel with an ensemble cast, so I accept that this is going to be an unpopular take, but this is what SoC should have been. The character dynamics felt better and more real and less like the author trying to force their characters to seem cool, which was my issue with SoC. This one also didn't feel as unnecessarily long as SoC--the pages it took up felt worth it.

They're very different books and I can definitely see people liking both, but this was a refreshing change for me in a niche I was worried that I had just stopped liking. I also am a big historical fiction person, and I think this did well enough with that, although it was not my favorite in that genre.
