This was a fun world to get into! The magic was a neat twist of it coming from Babylon fragments that are scattered throughout the world but are known only by a few powerful houses. That makes for good book with corruption of the powerful and I hadn't come across a magic system like that, so that was cool.

I thought Severin was a bit annoying at times while he was trying to bring back his house (I loved the twist at the end!) but I really liked Laila and her ability and I really hope I can read more about her backstory in the next book. The setting was lavish and beautiful to read and I wish I could stay at Severin's hotel. It was good world building.

I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next one to come out!
