The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi is the book to read in 2019. It is full of everything a good YA book should have. It has action, suspense, love, sexual tension, and of course a bit of “magic”. Now I say “magic” because they do not call it magic, they call it Forging. Basically, there are these fragments that are placed in different areas of the world that give some people the ability to change either a physical object or one’s mind. I thought this was a very unique take on magic and I loved it!

As far as love and sexual tension goes this book was filled to the brim with it and I was in heaven. I love a good slow burn love interest and I especially love some sexual tension. It seemed all the characters in this book had one or another. More than once I wanted to knock their heads together and yell “shut up and kiss already!” But unfortunately, they can’t hear me so I was forced to suffer and watch as my OTPS make terrible choices.

There is one aspect of this book that I thought was hugely interesting and important that I am not sure if people will catch. The Fragments that provide the forging abilities are claimed to have fallen from heaven themselves. The reason why certain people can use the power they give off apparently is because of that. God clearly plays a large part in this book, not in a religious aspect (no religion is pushed or really spoken of) What I find to be interesting is that the main character Severin had seven fathers. His birth father died in a fire and he was then shipped from home to home until he became of age. All of his fathers were named after the seven deadly sins and each one it seems taught him something about the specific sin. I’m not sure how that will play into the books squeal (date undetermined) but I have a gut feeling it will play a major part at one point or another.

Overall this book was breathtaking. I easily fell in love with all the characters and all their little quirks. This book made me feel so many different things. I was hooked from page one and I can’t wait for the second book to come out!
