The introduction to this novel gives a tone right away of French distaste. It opens to a young, pompous woman who is awaiting a carriage to travel to a meeting that she doesn't want to be at and circles her thoughts and attitudes which make you dislike her off the bat! It seems like it could bean interesting book because the writing is done very well but the first impression made me feel a bit sad or fed up before I even started. I guess I like a more light introduction but this may be artfully done by the author and I just need to read more.
