This book states that it will talk about war crimes and the Nazi regime, and I don't doubt it for a second, but it also seems to want to talk about those who pushed the atrocities of WWII under the table. Eva's mother notes "It’s terrible, what happened. In the war. But no one wants to hear it anymore. And why in our city, of all places?" (31), when Eva says that her assignment is to translate for the trial. And I think that is something that needs to be talked about - people tend to want to push terrible things under the rug but they need to be talked about, and I want to know if the book does it in a engaging fashion.

Also, I love all the small humorous moments to make up for the possibly depressing subject matter.
