I read a fair amount of WWII fiction, but have very rarely read any novels about the after--precisely what Annette Hess is writing about here. From the first chapter alone, Eva is a striking character; you feel her spirit lighting up the page. You know her journey isn't going to be an easy one; it says that much in the summary alone, but I feel like this is going to be a coming-of-age tale that, while possibly not unique, will feel more pressing given the background of the novel.
