The author tackles a part of history that has not been widely covered through the character of Eva, a pretty and talented young German woman who is asked to translate the testimony of witnesses in a war crimes tribunal for the horrors perpetrated at Auschwitz during World War II. I sympathized very much with Eva as she tried to decide between her fiance and her job. The stark and chilly aura of the story is aptly represented by the pretty cover, which drew me in just as much as the descriptive and realistic writing. I would definitely like to find out what happens to Eva as she takes on a difficult and necessary task.
