Good premise for a story, but lacking in writing quality

The synopsis of this novel makes it sound very promising. I love historical fiction, and especially books that highlight women's contributions to history. However, there is something in the author's manner of writing that is off-putting. For example, the fact that she wrote that the dog Purzel "pooped in the snow" just comes off as juvenile. Additionally, the book moves from following Eva to following David without any line breaks, which makes the switch in setting rather jolting. I believe I would enjoy this story as a whole, but would struggle with the writing throughout.
