Interesting Time Travel Story

This was a great beginning to a new speculative fiction story. I enjoyed the tone of Newitz's prose. However, I am not sure about the plot. It seemed discombobulated, though I am chalking this up to me not knowing the full workings of the machine not a fault on Newitz's part.
