This is a slow burn of a book. While the mystery is set up quite quickly, nothing substantial happens until about halfway through the book...but stick with it. It picks up and doesn't stop.

We start off with a narrator that makes promises to give nothing but the facts, but can they be trusted? For that matter, can any of the characters be trusted? Michaelides does an excellent job of making the reader question everything - the narrator, the main character, the best friends, and the motives. At no point did I REALLY know what was going to happen, although I had my assumptions. Needless to say, I wasn't ever completely correct.

As mentioned, it does take some time to get the story rolling. The first half of the book (after the incredibly enticing opening) is a lot of VERY SLOW build-up. I found myself putting down the book often in the beginning, but I was unable to stop reading during the last half.

For fans of twisty thrillers who like to be kept on their toes, this book is for you.
