I really enjoyed The Silent Patient. So, when I saw Alex Michaelides had a new book coming out, I knew I had to read it. This wasn’t a bad book by any means, but I can honestly say I enjoyed Michaelides other books more. I struggled to connect to fully connect t to the characters. The unreliable narrator didn’t really work for me. He kept promising the big surprises to come, but it took seventy five percent of the books to finally get to them. By then I had to started to loose interest. I love a good slow burn, but this gave new meaning to the word slow. The reader has to suspend disbelief to enjoy the onslaught of reveals coming at the end of the book. It was honestly a bit over the top.
Also, this cover. It really didn’t do the book any favors. It’s as bland as the narrator of the book.
Though this book wasn’t for me, I am sure many readers will enjoy it. I look forward to reading more from Alex Michaelides in the future.
