This story is narrated by Elliot Chase who takes us through a visit to an ex-movie star’s private Greek island. I think the biggest problem I had was Elliot’s narration of the story and him constantly breaking the fourth wall to talk to the reader. It just didn’t work for me and came off as corny, more than anything else. He also kept promising a big twist and overhyped it so much that I was very underwhelmed by the big reveal. I just found the story to be really boring in general and the incredibly slow pacing didn’t help. Since I’m now embracing the DNF-ing, I would have done that with this book, had I not felt obligated to finish and write a review, having won this through a raffle.

Unfortunately this was my least favorite Alex Michaelides book to date. I’ll still give future books by him another shot, but so far I have only enjoyed The Silent Patient.

Many thanks to the publisher and BookishFirst for providing me with a review copy.
