I was sent a copy of this from the publisher and was pretty excited. While I didn’t like The Maidens or Silent Patient, I did enjoy how readable they were. The Fury was … a different pace… entirely. It was slow. Lifeless. Dull. Derivative. The characters were neither likable or hate-able. For a slow burn thriller to be successful, you need that ingredient. By the end, I just didn’t care. It was outlandishly silly and I was just hoping they would all stop talking. I read somewhere that the narrator is Great Value Caraway from Great Gatsby, and boy howdy were they right. Overall, I don’t think I’ll pick up any future books by this author. I often feel as if he’s done no research and steals really cheap ideas from lesser known authors. While he’s been the “author to watch” for years now, I just don’t understand the hype. No doubt this will be one of the biggest books of 2024, but for me it was not it.
