“The Fury” is a murder mystery about 7 people on a remote Greek island during a furious windstorm. Who gets killed, and who killed them, became secondary to this reader because this is such a convoluted story. This modern-day Greek tragedy, told in the context of a play, fell short for me.
The seemingly cordial narrator promises to tell the reader the unbiased truth; his depiction is neither unbiased nor the truth. As the story progresses, the narrator inserts important segments of the backstory that he failed to divulge earlier. As his trustworthiness declines and the story lags, it was easy to lose interest in the saga.
The characters are mostly unlikeable. Some were undeveloped, others were skewered unmercifully by the opinionated narrator. The fury that was promised did not meet my expectations, nor did the book.
My thanks to Celedon Books for an advanced copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
