This is a generous rating, tbh. The good: the pacing and short chapters made this easy to digest and follow, despite the timeline jumping. The concept of this unreliable narrator telling a story to his audience was excellent, and although the plot twists were somewhat predictable, I still enjoyed the moments of surprise involved. However, the mmc was an absolutely insufferable prick, and the justifications involved for his actions and existence tarnished the story for me. I've read similar criticisms of this author's other works, which leads me to believe this type of character is his primary focus. I probably wouldn't read another book by him, and I'm somewhat disappointed that I got taken in by the hype around this one. I did finish it in a relatively average time for me, simply because I wanted to know if the plot would improve or if my enjoyment would increase, but by the time I shut the book I honestly just wished I hadn't spent the time reading it.
