I’ve read all of Alex’s books so far and I love how different they are. I’ve read some reviews that readers were disappointed on the “but wait there’s more”/unreliable narrator trope but this is something he’s so great at pulling off that I don’t agree with that sentiment. This is a fast read, keeps you wanting to turn the page to find out what’s next.

The storyline had a lot of similarities to Knives out while the prose reminded me a lot of Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It has a smooth and natural reading like a friend is sharing a story with you about something wild that just happened to their friends on a private island.

The story did not grab me right away like his others. It took a few chapters for me to get into it. I recommend giving it a read if you’re between books and need to cleanse your palette with something quick and easy. Especially if you’ve liked his other books.
