I absolutely loved The Silent Patient, but found that The Maidens fell short for me, so I was hoping The Fury would bring back the magic I felt with The Silent Patient. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
The beginning certainly hooked me, as Michaelides books tend to do, so for that I would suggest giving this book a go. While this was a quick read, I never found myself fully immersed in the story. I suppose that’s hard when not a single character is likable or in any way genuine. I found myself getting easily distracted and pulled away from this book.
The unreliable narrator trope almost felt too heavy handed, like nothing our MC said would turn out to be true. In that sense I got echos of The Silent Patient, but with none of the finesse. Good bones, but no meat.
As with The Maidens, we’re given an excessive amount of red herrings, which wasn’t really necessary to me.
Not a bad book, but certainly lacking.
