Fell short of my expectations

I really wanted to like this book after having enjoyed both of Alex Michaelides’ previous psychological thrillers. Even from the First Look, this one felt overrated and hyped up. The narrative style, told by Elliott as an all-knowing yet unreliable narrator, attempted an unusual and interesting approach that never settled in for me. At first, I thought it might bring a fresh perspective, but it ended up creating a barrier between me and the characters, none of whom felt relatable or likable. That made it tough for me to root for anyone or care about the plot or twist. When the unexpected turn of events finally emerged, it lacked the punch and excitement that I expected. Also, the slow pace didn’t effectively build tension or sustain enough momentum to keep me fully captivated.

Although The Fury fell short of my expectations, I appreciated the “closed room” setting of a private Greek island and Michaelides’ ability to create vivid imagery without excessive details.
