The Fury by Alex Michaelides is a thriller about an ex-movie star and her famous friends on holiday on a Greek island. What is supposed to be a fun, spontaneous trip turns into a murder mystery that is narrated by a playwright, Elliot chase, who goes from being a supporting character to the protagonist when the private island is cut off by strong winds and a murder. The characters in this story were complicated and were predominantly unlikeable, including the narrator. This made it difficult for me to get fully invested in the story as I was always trying to keep Elliot at arm’s length. Typically, I need at least one character or something about a character to connect to in some way. So it’s very possible that this is simply the case of the reader (me) not connecting to the story. As such, I would still recommend this book to readers who enjoy thrillers, suspense, twists, and of course, the unreliable narrator! It is a fun book that will keep you guessing and on your toes. And with karma biting back, this story comes with a satisfying ending.
