Disappointing

Overall, I found this book highly disappointing after his recent novel. From the first impression, I expected so much more.

The writing style was very interesting to me. I like the different perspectives, but really could not connect with the first-person narrator talking to the reader. This narration style was so atypical and off-putting to me.

I also think the narration deeply affected my ability to connect to the side characters. Since we always went back to the first-person narration, I couldn't really unpack how the side characters were feeling or growing and developing. I felt like as time went on I was forcing myself to read this book and would be so annoyed when we got to a first-person talking at me chapter.

Additionally, the plot left much to be desired for me. It felt disjointed and I never really was all that invested in what was going to happen next. Every time I would become invested, it would take a turn or go to another act.

The positive for me (the only way I think I was able to finish) was the really short chapters.
