As good as The Silent Patient
Alex Michaelides is back in top form! I loved The Fury and the writing device that is employed. The narrator extols the reader to pretend they are just having a drink together while the tale of The Fury (in all of it iterations) is unfolded.
The sarcasm that occasionally drips from the narrator is delicious and kept me hooked and suspicious that this narrator might be unreliable. Even the title is acknowledged by the narrator as a possible death knell to the story. I mean, who wants to hear about weather?!!!
The Fury weaves a tale of an obsessive love story, a retired and beloved actress, a Greek Island, loyalty, and a storm. You'd think that was enough to be hooked. But, add in an unhealthy dose of jealousy and greed and you have a perfect tale to get lost in. If you look oh-so-carefully, you might catch a bit of a nod to a past character from Michaelides' previous books.
Grab yourself a drink, a chair, and enjoy.
