I am a fan of Alex Michaelides’ work, especially The Silent Patient, and I was so glad when the Fury was a First Look on Bookishfirst. Only twelve pages were offered and not all of the twelve are the story itself, so there was not much of the novel to judge. It opens with an interesting premise, gun shots leading to a murder. There is a first person narrator telling the reader that this will be a why-done-it rather than a who-done-it, which seems interesting, especially for this author whose last minute culprit reveals have been epic. I like that the author is switching things up, but I don’t like to be pulled along with each chapter ending in a cliffhanger; I am hoping that this won’t be the case here, but it is hard to know with essentially only a prologue to go by. Michaelides’ first book,The Silent Patient, was such an exceptional read for me that it will be difficult to exceed it, but I am always hopeful. That being said, the author’s books always provide the reader with a well-written, engaging novel to escape into, and I am sure The Fury is no exception. I am looking forward to its release.
