This is by far the shortest first impression I've ever read and, for this reason, the quickest I've ever been hooked. I've only read The Maidens but I enjoyed it enough to give this a peek and hooooo boy!
I love the way this book is introduced. I love the narrative voice, the setting, and the promise of what is to come. I can only hope the rest of the book holds up to the first few pages- especially as one who loves reading for the sake of characters and being promised character exploration.
