The first few chapters started off strong and then the story fizzled out for me. Claire Chastain, the main character, is extremely hard to like. She is cold, sharp-tongued, and angry. Her grandmother, Leona, well, there is nothing slightly redeemable about her at all. Claire has returned home to DC to put her grandmother in a nursing home and shortly after her return, her childhood friend Gavin, who suffers from paranoia is killed in a suspicious car accident. He leaves her a strange message and then all kinds of strange things start happening including a creepy, fat guy stalker following her in a Lincoln Continental. Strangely enough, the one likeable thing about this story is that I ended up liking her stalker the most out of anything in the book.

It’s a bit slow in the middle, but really picks up towards the end with kidnappings, blundering bad guys, and Claire coming into her own. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either and would read Mr. Diamond’s other books. I gave it three stars. Thank you to BookishFirst for the chance to read.
