Claire Chastain has built walls around her even a tank couldn't destroy. Hardworking and independent as all get out, she has one friend she feels like she can confide in. That is, until that friend dies mysteriously and leaves her in the middle of a mess she didn't realize he made. This book was a super fast, easy read for me, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. I didn't have all the pieces put together until the very end, which kept me interested and guessing where everything would go. I really identified with Claire, the main character and found myself hoping she would break through that wall she had built around her. But, her badassery was pretty impressive and unique as a literary character. She saves herself on more than one occasion and the book is not centered around her love life, although it is included. The end of the book leaves the reader with a bit of a cliffhanger. I hope this means that Claire (and maybe Lincoln) will return in another book.
