Claire, our narrator, is almost immediately unlikable, and she's also shrouded in all sorts of mystery, making it difficult to connect with her. The writing frequently shifts from third person narration to first person introspection, which can be jarring. I think this would've worked better written in first person throughout, rather than the constant shifts. There's potential for a suspenseful story.
