A Book That Doesn't Underestimate a Young Adult's Reading Ability

Although I'm not into these types of storylines, I can tell this book was written by an author who respects young adults. The sentences are dense, with larger words than I would have expected. The characters are already numerous just a few pages in. And sentence structure is moderate. This is not an over-simplified young adult book. If I were a kid again, I would have torn through these pages, and I think this book would make an excellent gift for an avid reader.

Regarding the substance of the book, I thought it was riveting, and I'm not usually into these types of books.

I don't like the cover. I thought this was a graphic novel based on the cover.
