I really loved salt to the sea (I read it a few years ago and it's still one of my favorite books to this day) So of course, I was very excited to start this book. In the beginning, it was a bit slow, but it picked up pretty quickly.

I loved the characters and in my personal opinion, they were well developed and seemed realistic.

I also liked the setting. I thought the time period and setting were unique and I found them intriguing. I thought the insight into living under a dictatorship was interesting to read about, and not something I see very often in books.

One of my favorite parts about this book is Ruta Sepetys' way of writing. The language she uses and overall just the way she writes is amazing.

My only complaint about this book is the storylines. I know she usually writes her books with lots of different and intertwining storylines, but at some points, it was just too many for my taste and even took my interest away from the book.

Other than that I think this book is great!
