Ruta Sepetys is the absolute queen of historical fiction. I recieved an ARC of this book in April 2019 from the publisher and read it right away. This story has stuck with me the entire 10 months since I read it. The whole premise of the novel is an absolute chilling little slice of history that i knew nothing about previously but have since done some research into it.
The characters in this novel are richly written, realistic, deep and complicated. It was easy to relate to each and every one at different points through out the novel. I was rooting for Daniel and Ana every step of the way. Their romance was absolutely precious and didnt take away from the storyline, but rather made it more complicated.
Even if historical fiction usually isn't your thing, I highly recommend reading The Fountains of Silence.
