Incredible historical fiction novel
I'm a big fan of Ruta Sepetys, and this book was a great addition to her other novels. The story takes place in Madrid in the 1950s, and it follows the life of a young girl living in Spain, as well as a boy visiting from America. I love the way the stories intertwine, and also love the added history behind the personal stories. The book tells a beautiful story about the duality of those living in a country during a difficult time, vs those who simply visit and see only the "tourist attractions".
The book is told mostly from the perspective of the American boy, the outside, with little glimpses into the lives of the characters living in Madrid. The thoughts and feelings conveyed by the characters are written so beautifully, and the story as a whole is incredibly well done. I loved this novel and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
